October 2011 - Unshakable Kingdom

Pastor’s Pondering—Unshakable Kingdom
Much has happened this year to shift the dynamics of nations in our world. There seems to be an interesting correlation between natural earthquakes and political ones. There is a lot of this world that has been shaken and continues to be shaken.
Jesus said that, “Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world.” (Matt 24:7)  Nation can mean tribe or ethnicity. Kingdom refers to authorities over regions or territories. You cannot look at our world and not see all of this at play.
While this is playing out, we are not to be playing at our faith. Christianity is not a game to be played; not a role to be acted; not a membership in a club. Christianity is a relationship in response to a righteous ruler. Listen to how the writer of Hebrews puts it:
25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:25-29—NKJV)
Christians around the world today have the greatest opportunity to speak to people that are experiencing shaking in their lives. We can share about a relationship that endures through eternity. We can speak as ambassadors of a Kingdom that is unshakeable.
The key to this is listening to the Voice of the One who speaks from heaven. We need to serve Him with reverence and Godly fear and not let lawlessness abound and our love grow cold—more of the signs Jesus spoke about (Matt. 24:12).
Make the most of opportunities to grow in your love for Him. Take in the conference on the October 14-16 weekend. Join in on prayer times with others. Through word and action, share Christ with others who don’t know Him. Be as unshakeable as the Kingdom we are part of.
